Here, we have the first map I can say I'm pretty proud of. I don't know if I'll keep things entirely this way, but mostly, things will look somewhat like this. I have not decided exactly where to put the equator, but current scale is a little different in my mind from the original master map. I'm thinking each little square is 200 by 200 miles. Therefore, the big squares would be 600 miles up and down and 800 right to left. Then again, I may go back and fix it so that the squares are equal by equal and doing the whole thing again. I've learned a lot about paint that makes this not a horrible process (this map took me the better part of a week to do, and I even started over once, so not awful.
The continents are labeled with Old English Font and the Country names are labeled with Brittanica Bold. Interesting that both have to do with the UK in their names. Yes, I realize that some countries are absolutely enormous, perhaps comparable to China or India or the U.S. Size does not necessitate power or influence. Thortinis, while huge, has limited access to the ocean and is mostly prairie and forests. The sea of grass extends into their territory quite a bit, and at the borders between them and the kinto-shah. Sarkoshia is just a tiny cluster of islands, but they have access to a ready supply of Aethren and mystroskus, along with alliances with other countries who like to trade with them. Morrigar is large, but must protect their borders from the wildlands on their western borders, so despite their efforts to reclaim some of the Sarkoshian islands, they are largely unsuccessful. The countries of Allorinia used to almost all be part of the Xomirian Empire. In fact, the name ZekXomir means "Not Xomir." The three countries north of the Unwanted Coast are primarily kunjelic or elf.
You will notice a few countries are named with XXX-XXX names (hyphenated). These are primarily kinto-shah countries. Trithofar is sometimes called "The World of Doors" and through the Forever Mountains (between Frosomia and Allorinia) are many portals. Other lands have portals as well, and through these various colonies have been established.
Almost every continent has very large wildland territories, either light gray (meaning no noticeable civilizations are there) or a tan/light brown color, which indicates the areas are populated, but without any overarching governments. Some of the countries in Trithofar are broken off from ancient empires and consist of very low population densities. The dark gray areas mean it is too cold for anyone to live there.
Perhaps I would say more, if I got the impression people are listening. I see people are viewing some of this, but I don't hear from any of you. Let me know if you have comments or questions about what I'm doing here. I would love to know someone is interested.
